Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell
Jul 29, 2026Only The Savage Are Left #2 continues the groundwork that was started in the first issue and reveals even more of this hellscape of a world. The internal struggle within Ryder at times feels more threating than the nightmare external struggle and that gives this story its relatability. It also gives this story a big advantage over other stories in this genre as it brings a human element to the story that anyone can relate to. If this series is not already on your Pull List, you need to rectify that immediately! This is one of the best new series out right now and even after two issues I promise you won’t want to miss what’s next. Read Full Review

Nerd Initiative - Matthew Roth
Jul 29, 2026Only The Savage Are Left #2 will leave you yelling at your book or computer or whatever it is you choose to read this issue with. The complexity within our main characters that Zack delivers is not our traditional hero’s journey and that is a great thing. Thiago, Stefano, and Hassan’s ability to tell an accompanying story through the art with the designs and subtle hints laid in the story do an incredible job. This story continues to get better and sinks its claws further into me the more I read. Read Full Review

Comic Book Clique - Frank Jarome
Jul 29, 2026Only the Savage Are Left #2 is a fantastic comic book that tells a story of one young man trying to remain true to himself in a world full of monsters, lest he become one himself. If you like your comics with strong characters, a realistic young relationship, impressive worldbuilding, and relatable moral dilemmas, this is a book to watch out for. Read Full Review

Derby Comics - Patrick Savoia-Peterson
Jul 12, 2026However, none of that dampens how much fun I am having with this series. Two issues in, Only the Savage Are Left is the kind of horror I keep wishing more comics would try, the type that leans on mood and tension as hard as it leans on visual scares. The cliffhanger had me immediately ready for issue #3, which is the best problem a monthly can hand you. Bring on the next one! Read Full Review

AIPT - David Brooke
Jul 28, 2026Only the Savage Are Left #2 successfully raises the stakes while giving Ryder meaningful development as he struggles to survive without abandoning his humanity. Zack Kaplan continues to build a dangerous world where every encounter feels unpredictable, while Stefano Raffaele and Thiago Rocha reinforce that danger with grounded, cinematic visuals. A couple of storytelling transitions could be clearer, but the issue delivers exciting action, strong emotional beats, and a cliffhanger that makes the wait for the next chapter easy. Plot
Ryder tracks Oaklynn down, facing a horrific world where no one can be trusted. The appearance of Oaklynn's father is crucial to his progress. The comic depicts the lowest point humanity can reach, where there is no respect left for life.
Oaklynn's father has a mutated arm, a result of the virus, which transforms him into a lethal warrior.
Ryder recalls how he and Oaklynn were caught in the "wild zombie" outbreak. Their pure teenage love was brutally cut short, and Oaklynn proved to be far tougher than Ryder.
Oaklynn is tested by a group of survivors led by a deranged and sadistic figure who wears a skull mask. Ryder finally discovers where she is being held captive, but she is not tied up.
