The Shaolin Cowboy: Who'll Stop the Reign? #1 is a great introduction to this new story arc. Intense, wild and absurd, this issue is the beginning of something I'm excited to see unfold. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy ASAP, even if it's just to see Darrow's epic and amazing art. It really is something special. Read Full Review

Comic Bastards - Levi Remington Apr 19, 2017

The Shaolin Cowboy is completely off the wall. Like an unhinged stream of consciousness, but less of a stream, more of an unrelenting downpour. Like a scathing commentary on modern America and technology, but with more chi paths, talking crabs, and house pets with a cigarette problem. The book follows no traditional narrative structure. It meanders and it confuses. It's a mess, really. But it's a lovably offensive, beautifully illustrated, remarkably hilarious mess. A magnificent, whimsical disaster. Read Full Review

The Shaolin Cowboy: Who Will Stop The Reign? The absolutely gorgeous art. There really is not many artists like Darrow out there.Dave Stewart's brilliant coloring. The unbridled myth like story-telling.How Darrow places real world objects in this world. It's a nice touch that works as both a joke and social commentary. The effortless mix of genres that feels so natural you hardly notice. It could easily be jarring but it's not "You got a lot of Buddist hutzpah" The Trump radiation symbol on page 12. Funny and kinda frightening.Talking vultures as both a greek chorus, a source of exposition and humor. How Darrow balances pointed humor and actual pathos. The use of actual martial art techniques and philosophies.Darrow's ability to capture violence. It's gory yet beautiful. The Shaolin Cowboy: Who Will Stop The Reign? There you have it, folks. Pick this up when it hits stands for something different but fantastic. You won't be disappointed by this beautiful book. Read Full Review

Shaolin Cowboy: Who'll Stop the Reign? is filled with enough visual delights to more than make up for itsheavy-handed crankiness, even if at times you may be tempted to skip the text and just stare at the pretty, pretty pictures. With the artistic freedom and raw talent to create whatever the hell he feels like, Geof Darrow delivers comic booking in its purest form: an unfiltered, unrefined dose of creative id delivered straight from the artist's brain to the reader's eyeballs. It's an all too rare occurrence that's well worth savoring. Read Full Review

Darrow’s art speaks for itself in the visually stunning return to Shaolin Cowboy. Unfortunately, the writing and over-the-top social commentary don’t keep up the pace – instead offering more than their fair share of eye-rolling and that’s a shame. Stay for the art, leave the words to the side, thinking of them merely as a means to an end and you’ll find a lot to enjoy here. Read Full Review

Now, I'm sure for those that know the original material, this may actually make sense and be a great continuation. Anyone like me that tries to come into it now though is going to be utterly baffled at what they're reading. For obvious reasons, I'd suggest against new people picking this up and leave it up to prior readers to judge. Read Full Review
