While I recently stated that I'm burned out on the whole Blight story, I have to admit that I was really into this issue of Constantine.  The story had a real feel of enemies that were once friends, and the desperation in their acts against each other.  Well at least on Nick's end.  It's weird that I feel more remorse coming from the villain than the hero, but I guess that's why we keep reading Constantine.  He's not our ordinary hero in tights.  So I hope that this issue has rejuvenated me for the last leg of the Dark characters saga of Blight, and I hope it does the same for you.  Check it out. Constantine is still managing to surprise me. Whilst it is still a very different book to Hellblazer (and that's a good thing, honestly), it has managed to define itself as a book that isn't afraid to get inside Constantine's head, somewhere we're not usually privy to. Fawkes' inner monologue for Constantine is engaging, and he has taken Nick Necro and fleshed him out as a foil for John that will likely return again and again to become his New 52-iverse arch nemesis. The artwork remains stunning, and the story balances its crossover duties with still being a great series at the same time, something I'm still shocked to be saying repeatedly. Overall, this is a fantastic installment that's breathed new life into a series that's been suffering lately. Constantine's just kind of been putzing around since "Forever Evil: Blight" started, and not only is it coming back strong, but it's coming back stronger than it's ever been during the entire first year it's been running. We already knew that Nick Necro hated Constantine, and we already knew that Constantine wanted to rescue Zatanna and escape from Nanda Parbat. So what was achieved here? No new insights, limited plot development, average art, and a final panel that doesn't exactly thrill me with anticipation for what is going to happen next. This is starting to really drag now. The creativity is running dry, and as a reviewer I'm starting to find it difficult to say anything positive or negative about it all. It's a cross over event unit shifter, that's all there is to say.
