This is another great issue as the Green Lantern family of books continue to steamroll the competition on the sales charts. While each book continues to stand on their own they are also connected just enough so that you really get the sense that these events in different corners of the universe not only matter, but they matter to each other in a cross continuity that doesn't require you to buy all three titles if your taste or budget prevents you from doing that. Bedard once again has the chance to write Sinestro at length, and his portrayal of the villain easily holds up to Tomasi's or Geoff Johns'. The Weaponer also fares well this month; in an earlier review I noted my displeasure in seeing the character suddenly veer into simplistic villain territory. The arrival of the Sinestro Corps knocks him out of that role and back into something a little more nuanced and ambiguous. Tyler Kirkham delivers some solid pencils as well. Kirkham isn't terribly adept at wide expanses and space scenes, but when it comes to more chaotic and "up close and personal" warfare like this, his talent for detailed, visually arresting action scenes shines. With any luck, the series can maintain this quality through the end of this arc and into "War of the Green Lanterns". Read Full Review

Before Sinestro's no-selling antics, this was a pretty good comic. But after that? My enjoyment of this story whittled away to almost nothing. Please let Sinestro get just a little beat up by somebody other than Hal "The only Green Lantern that matters" Jordan next issue... That's all I ask. If Sinestro at least gets knocked down next issue I'll bump the score up an extra 1/2 no matter what I thought of the rest of it. Read Full Review

Green Lantern Corps #56 should appeal to readers who like lots of action and are not too concerned with the depth of story or plot development. This issue is attractive to the eye and does offer up some popcorn for the brain in terms of entertainment value. However, for everyone else out there I would recommend passing on Green Lantern Corps #56. This issue simply does not offer enough content or value to justify the $3.00 price of admission. Post-"Darkest Night" it's felt like the various Green Lantern titles have been trying to find a new direction, and slightly stalling for the next large storyline. Having your momentum start dropping two months before the next event seems like a bad business move. Why scare readers off when they're so close to your next hook? It may not be actively bad (and I'm thankful for that), but apathy can be just as dangerous. Read Full Review

You can't go wrong with this issue if you like fighting. However, the comic really contains no plot or, at times, direction. If The Weaponer simply wants revenge then why wouldn't he just have gone off and hunted Sinestro? Why haven't the people of the planet tried to get help to rid themselves of The Weaponer in the past? I never felt like questions like this were addressed. Instead the issue just seems like a convenient way to get a lot of people to fight. To be blunt, this arc should have been three issues (or maybe even only two) instead of five. But since the build up of Blackest Night, this has been the direction of the Green Lantern books and it's a shame. Read Full Review
