While I didn't know how to feel about Dematties completely taking over the writing duties on this book, simply because I'm not too familiar with his more recent work, I was extremely happy with how this issue turned out. It actually got a bit better. This is still one of my favorite DC series, and this is a book you want to jump on, especially because the Trinity War is coming up. PHANTOM STRANGER may be a bit different from the rest of the DC books, but that doesn't mean it's not as good, if not better (which it is) than most of its "capes" books. Read Full Review

Thankfully, Dematteis manages to finally pay off several of the book's lingering plot-lines and actually ends the issue on a positive note. With things beginning to wrap up and "Trinity War," on the horizon, one has to wonder if there's much gas left in this tank. It would certainly be a shame to see the book go, especially as it appears to have finally hit its creative stride. To reiterate, this isn't the Phantom Stranger you know, but rather something entirely new. If fans, and DC itself, can embrace that idea, then maybe this struggling book can finally find its legs. . . $3, 20pgs. Twisted cover, undermined by AD banner. Too many damn ADs! . . . A great slice of hell here with appearance and assistance of the Justice League Dark, although they are not in it much. Confrontation with sin eater and the Stranger's sin, leads him into hell and involved with Etrigan. Ultimately we get a bit of a Deus Ex Machina at the lend but its an interesting ride. Dematteis is raising the bar for PS, ho[efully we will see a satisfying arc wrap up before the title gets sidetracked for a couple months.
