Villains United was the stand-out of the Countdown to Infinite Crisis mini's. While I haven't been able to keep up with Secret Six, I was very pleased to see the quality I saw in that original limited series continuing into this title. I wish I'd read the other issues of this story arc, because this was a dynamite conclusion. Read Full Review
My only real problem with the issue concerns the motivations of its chief antagonist, which we learn here are inspired by someone other than Catman. As a result, Blake is revealed to be a pawn in a way that neither he nor we ever fully understood until the last minute. Although it will undoubtedly be seen as a clever twist by some, I thought the execution of the swerve felt a tad cheap considering how late in the game Simone laid her cards on the table. It wasn't until after finishing this issue that I realized that one storyline (Bane and Jeanette) doesn't appear in this issue at all. There's so much happening that there really wasn't room for it, and I'm glad that Simone wasn't afraid to set them aside for a month to focus on the bigger stories. “Cats in the Cradle Part Four” ends Catman‘s quest for revenge, and possibly his membership in the Secret Six? Say it ain't so Gail Simone, say it ain't so! All around another strong issue including a look into the pain of Black Alice, Ragdoll acting like a man, and a final flashback into the childhood of Thomas Blake.
