Knowing Brainiac was involved in the story of this annual left me on the fence over reading this right away but finding out Lois Lane plays a huge part in the story is a glorious treat. Lobdell shows us Lois is a character deserving of the spotlight and is more than capable of carrying a story. Let's hope we're able to see more Lois stories soon. Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund's art gives the story a classic feel but also captures the New 52 look from today's comics. This is not a bad annual. While the focus is not really on Superman, it is nice to see Lois get the spotlight and add some depth to her character. Lobdell turns in another decent issue that is leading to a grander scheme within the Superman line, and Dan Jurgens' art is at the top of its game. Artist Dan Jurgens returns again to Superman to help tell the tale and does a solid job throughout. Aside from the confusing layout of the second and third page, the story flows nicely and he gets the job done where it counts. The same positives can be said for the backup story drawn by Tom Derenick, but the script for that story by Frank Hannah is nothing but wall after wall of text that threaten to drown the art, leading to a clunky and uninspiring story about Superman's Kryptonian parents. There's nothing groundbreaking here and, again, it doesn't tell anything in the way of a complete story, but it's moving our characters closer to their sweet spots. It's moving us back, hopefully, in the direction of Superman and Lois being colleagues and giving Superman familiar villains that test the full breadth of his character. Read Full Review
A very fun spotlight on Lois Lane! Great art by Jurgens and a well written character piece by Lobdell. The only downside is the random inclusion of World of Krypton part four, which was ill placed being as it is running as backup in Action and that it wasn't terribly good.
