"Lords of Luck" part 1! Batman and Green Lantern team up and head out on the trail of what could be the greatest weapon in the DCU. The trail leads to Ventura, the gambling planet, and if they don't recover the weapon soon, you can bet the entire Universe will be at risk!

Overall, not a bad first issue. I firmly believe that Waids encyclopedic knowledge of all things DC and Perezs love of drawing anything you can throw at him will make this book much better in the future, but its not off to a bad start. Read Full Review

I havent read a lot of Waids Superman stories, but this one issue is already leagues ahead of the strange annals of continuity hes setting up in Legion of Super-Heroes. Whereas that book is obscure and off-kilter, somehow disconnected by more than just 1000 years, this book is as mainstream as it gets. Its a thrill ride, and I cant wait to ride again! This was a fun comic reminiscent of the stories from the Bronze Age DC Universe. What more can I say? Read Full Review

I must admit to being quite disappointed with how the murder mystery that serves as such a strong hook in the opening act is discarded so quickly. It got me in the mood for an old-fashioned, Batman-as-detective story, with sci-fi elements thrown in to give Green Lantern a role in the story. I was also surprised that Waid's script doesn't incorporate the tension between these two heroes. I realize that the enmity and suspicion that the Batman has for GL has been addressed to some extent, but I think some continued tension would have brought some small measure of character-driven conflict to this story. While I wasn't as blown away by this issue as I hoped to be, I can't deny that the creators have tapped into an old-school sense of fun and adventure. Read Full Review

Maybe I got my hopes a little too high, but when a series with this much history is relaunched, and DC puts a lot of hype on it, they should make sure it really is the best there is, and not rely on reputation. While there are rather amusing character bits, the overall story, the lack of a resolution, and lackluster art from Perez brings this down. Hopefully the series can pick up the pace. Sales were good, but the one thing needed for me to continue on with Brave and the Bold didnt happen. This book may continue to do well in shops, and may actually get good in the long run. Read Full Review
