Sep 22, 2014Over the course of Futures End, numerous characters have been strained or distorted by the circumstances of this future. It's not entirely dystopian, but it's no hippie dreamscape either. Some have lost their way completely. Some have disappeared altogether for reasons not fully explained. That's why Wonder Woman's story in Wonder Woman: Futures End #1 is so refreshing. It shows a Wonder Woman that has been affected by this future, but not in a way that deviates from the core of her character. She's still a beacon of hope and love. Sep 17, 2014Wonder Woman - Futures End #1 was solid aside from those few things pointed out above, though it obviously could have been better. Pick it up if you are reading Superman/Wonder Woman or if you have the money to pick up both since Futures End tie-ins don't require that much investment in them. Definitely pick it up if you like the interior art because that is the selling point. Read Full Review

However, it's only the first part of a two part story which continues in this week's Superman/Wonder Woman and is not close to being a complete story on it's own. Boy, this event is confusing. I really wish this issue wasn't a two-parter, since it doesn't need to be. This issue was really good until the end, when Superman shows up. Diana, of course, is five years in the future, and in the middle of a war. Even being the God of War now, she is still the same person, and she hasn't lost herself in bloodlust. We actually do get some good exposition about what's happening in this issue, and why this war is taking place. And while it might have seemed out of the ordinary in most situations (since she's explaining things to people who should know them already), it doesn't feel forced, thanks mainly to the reaction of one of the generals. Some cool character analysis of Diana doesn't save this issue from the general feeling of boredom and redundancy that surrounds it. While ordinarily, I would have recommended this to fans of the Brian Azzarello run who are curious about her future as the God of War, the story doesn't end here, but continues into Superman/Wonder Woman: Futures End, which is a very good reason not to recommend this to anyone.
