OverallThis was a really strong issue with lots going on. Added to Spock struggling to keep The Defiant flying. We has Worf and his team escaping as well as the Orian Captain narrating an old Orian story about a past Orian leader and a pact that was made with a Gorn Captain. And if that isn't enough we get another report about Worf and Spock from Romulan Agent Sela. The question is. When will we see Sela actually come into this story and what role will she have? The creative teams at IDW continue their hot streak of engaging Star Trek books, as both the main Star Trek flagship title and Star Trek: Defiant consistently provide readers with stellar new stories. Although the character line-ups for each book seemed a bit odd at first glance, the character dynamics and interpersonal relationships are well written and seamlessly capture the voices of our favorite heroes. STAR TREK DEFIANT #3 is the most energetic issue yet and the most narratively creative. Cantwells use of the Neeva/Xaucus story adds weight that this issue would not otherwise have and creates a sense of foreboding. The issues relatively minor missteps arent big problems, but they are distracting. However, while this is the weakest of the current STAR TREK series, STAR TREK DEFIANT remains a compelling read.
