Exquisite Corpses #9 excels in its human moments. My chest swelled when I read Xavi's breakdown and Massachusetts' twisted scheming, while Rascal Randy's hunt is horror movie perfection. The focus on the victims and their struggle to survive brings some extra life to a series that mght have otherwise started to get a bit tedious. The competition format of the series DOES give it a fun energy, but it would take a lot more momentum to successfully bring to the page. A regimented approach to the competition could make it work, but Exquisite Corpses is clearly looking at trying to balance-out the competition with other, more traditional horror elements. Like almost every issue of Exquisite Corpses, the story is sprawling and split between a massive cast, but it's nice to see the good guys get a bit of a W for once. Also, Jordie Bellaire's flat black and reds continue to accentuate the violence and menace through her color palette. Read Full Review
Lots of different things happening. Possible twists, a hero? Well see what happens. The art was really great in this one.
This issue is more about the civilians and the families than it is about the killers. I don't quite understand the rules. They introduced the rule that the killer has to be using the weapon they started with to win. This info dump should not have beenin issue 9, but in issue 2. I know a lot of people love this. I think it's very average.

Being an old school slasher fan, I don’t care for the elites and the rules and even less for the cast of the town folk.
I think the series would’ve been better from the POV of the killers.
Still curios to see what happens next tho.
