HACK/SLASH returns with an untold tale and critically acclaimed cartoonist ZOE THOROGOOD at the bloody helm!
Slasher hunter Cassie Hack is only just getting used to her man-monster partner, Vlad, when she's drawn into a new case involving a murderous bunny mascot, dead kids, and an entire squad of maladjusted teenage serial-killer hunters!
A completely new chapter in the beloved, long-running series that's perfect for new readers and old fans alike, just in time for Halloween.
Thorogood proves that she can play in someone else's sandbox while still maintaining her own storytelling sensibilities, and frankly she brings an energy that a stale franchise like this needed. Read Full Review
Zoe Thorogood brings her own magic to 'Hack/Slash.' It's a similar experience when revered indie directors take on projects that you wouldn't expect. Greta Gerwig with 'Barbie' or Sophia Coppola with 'The Bling Ring,' for example, and the result is a whole new perspective on tried and true material. Thorogood injects something familiar and fun into 'Hack/Slash' without reinventing the core concept or changing what's made it a cult classic. 'Hack/Slash: Back to School' is another must-buy comic from Thorogood confirming why she's a rising superstar in the comic industry. Read Full Review

Hack/Slash: Back To School #1 is a bloody good time. Whether you're a die-hard Hack/Slash fan or a newcomer to the series, this comic book is definitely worth picking up. The art is fantastic, the story is engaging, and it captures the essence of Hack/Slash perfectly. Zoe Thorogood has done a great job and it's clear that she is a talented comic book creator and took the reigns from Hack/Slash co-creators Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli perfectly. Read Full Review
I do not know Hack/Slash as well as I would like. I enjoyed Revival, another series from Hack/Slash's co-creator Tim Seeley, and I'll read just about any comic Thorogood launches. With Back to School, she's got me hooked on her Cassie Hack and curious about the work of those who've come before. Good stuff, this. Read Full Review
Fair warning to the squeamish: some of the violence is incredibly nasty and may be triggering to some. I found myself hoping that the diner scene was some hallucination or daydream (spoiler: it aint) but I have mad respect for Thorogood and Image for not holding back. Fortunately the twisted humor and slasher-flick atmosphere undercuts the violence that some might consider in bad taste. By the time you get to the quasi-subtle joke about tentacle hentai, youll forget all about the machete-wielding guy in the bunny costume. And, yes, that is in fact a sentence I just wrote. All in all, Hack/Slash: Back to School #1 is perfect reading for spooky season with buckets of blood, general creepiness, and a self-aware sense of humor to go with the vulnerability in the captions Thorogood writes for Cassie done in a handwriting type lettering style. Read Full Review

Lots of gore, off-beat humor, panic, and ominous overtones here from writer and artist Zoe Thorogood. In other words, just what you'd expect from a Hack/Slack comic. Read Full Review
My how Eisner-Award winner Zoe Thorogood has grown up! After her highly successful It’s Lonely at the Center of the Earth, Thorogood is back to take over the reigns of the Hack/Slash franchise from series co-creator Tim Seeley. And while her previous work showed how well she can handle the intimacy and nuances of self-discovery, Hack/Slash: Back to School proves Thorogood is a genre-spanning force to be reckon with. The issue shines with world-class storytelling, with an added mix of gore and an off-brand sense of humor, which may only be matched by the distinctive vibrancy of Thorogood’s accompanying artistic prowess. Fans of her previous work may grasp their pearls at what the multi-talented creator pushes herself to achieve genre-wismore
I know nothing of this character or the universe she belongs to. I picked this up purely on artistic merit and not only does this comic look nice, it's a fun, simple read. Basically, if you smash Rockstar Game's Bully with Lollipop Chainsaw, you may end up getting this sort of book, if that is a good enough of a description.
