Sara Pezzini moved to Chicago to escape her failures and to leave her demons behind her in New York. "Witchblade" will always be on my list of books to read because the creative teams that have been on this series come in with their own strengths and build on what has come before and elevate the series to the next plateau. This issue is a good example of that push with the revelation from Jackie and I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes into play for this series in the coming issues. Read Full Review
This is part two of the multi-book crossover called Progeny which crosses over the Top Cow Universe books Artifacts, Darkness and Witchblade. There is something different about the universe and it takes an encounter between Sara and Jackie In a prison to figure out what it is. Things start getting crazy when the Darkness and the Witchblade are together. We learn the fate of Saras child and we see Tom Judge save the day. This is a very dark in depth story from writer Tim Seeley. The colors are equally as dark and brooding by the team of Pianto and Maulana. Bernards art style is very cool, sharp characters with edgy backrounds make this book a pleasure to read. The action scenes were very cool looking and the backstory was intriguing. This isnt a title that I would normally read but this issue was very cool. If youre not reading this you should give it a look! Read Full Review
Witchblade #164 continues the arc that began in Artifacts #25 (read our review here) while also revealing details about the Top Cow Rebirth, and just what might be coming up next for these wielders. Recommended. Read Full Review
I'm usually not a big fan of cross overs that require you to read various books, especially if I don't already read them. Progeny has been worth it so far and it's making me a bigger fan of the Top Cow universe with each issue. Read Full Review
I actually expected Witchblade #164 to be a lot worse than it is (sorry Witchblade fans and creators - that's just my personal prejudices at work I guess) and I can see why it would appeal to a enough readers to make it one of Image's longest running comics. It's not a comic I'll be purchasing for myself but it clearly understands its target market and hits that mark with some degree of accuracy and confidence. If you're expecting a deep or particularly clever story then I'd advise you to look elsewhere and the same goes for those of you who are after a contemporary aesthetic, but if you're after a quick schlocky read with strong nineties vibe then you might want to give Witchblade a try.
