RON MARZ RETURNS TO WITCHBLADE!
Sara Pezzini has been a cop, a mother, a girlfriend, and a private investigator. She is none of those things anymore. The only thing tying Sara to her past and preventing her from forging a new chapter in life is the Witchblade. But with everything else gone, who will Sara Pezzini be if she gives up the Witchblade?

Imagination Centre - John McCubbin Oct 26, 2013

This was an amazing issue and a brilliant jumping on point for new readers, as well as a brilliant time for old readers to rejoin the series. It has some amazing mystery, with plenty of suspense and drama, having brilliant tone throughout. Ron Marz also shows why his original run on Witchblade was so popular, and with new artist Laura Braga with him the series is bound to remain outstanding. Due to all this it's extremely easy to recommend this issue, and I for one can't wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

Now on the big question: can you just pick up and the book and start here? Well, yes, you very much can. Marz has made this a pretty good jumping on point for fans how have been Top Cow curious. As I mentioned, the side characters are there, but not really explored but you get the gist of their relationship with Sara within this setting. It's definitely a new beginning for the Witchblade world and I'm ready to see where things go. Read Full Review

But, all things considered, I had fun with this issue. I've already re-read it a few times and it holds up to multiple readings. Small things jump out constantly. I'm definitely onboard with the new creative team. They just need to get the kinks worked out here. Read Full Review

It's been a bit since I've been really excited over Witchblade, but in this first issue, Marz and Braga breathe new life into the character, and I can't wait to see where they go with it. Read Full Review

It's time to get back into WITCHBLADE. Ron Marz returns and you won't' be ready for what he has planned. If you haven't read in a while or at all, you can easily start here. We get a nice summary and Marz establishes that time has passed with some mystery as to what has recently happened. As we start to get the pieces to the puzzle, Marz whacks us in the head with an ending that should catch you off guard. If you've ever been curious about WITCHBLADE or haven't read it in a while, this is a good place to start. Ron Marz knows the character, having written her for so long. It's been too long since I've read WITCHBLADE and I thank Marz for giving me a reason to come back. Read Full Review

    Bloody Disgusting - BigJ Oct 21, 2013

Despite Witchblade #170 being largely a set-up issue, Marz and Braga do a great job of bringing this series back-to-basics to remind readers why Witchblade was such a compelling book to read. With Marz back in the saddle it's exciting to see this book back on track and heading in a bold new direction. Read Full Review

    Newsarama - Rob McMonigal Oct 31, 2013

Artist Laura Braga, with colorist Betsy Gonia, makes this issue shine, giving Sara a swagger and sensuality that shows from her hip-swinging first appearance. She's equally at ease providing expressive faces and postures, driving the action as this series receives a much-needed shot in the arm. Read Full Review

Comic Bastards - Dustin Cabeal Oct 30, 2013

I wouldn't say that this issue is a soft reboot like the start of Seeley's run was, but it is a great spot for new readers to jump on. You really don't need to know anything about the series previously and while I couldn't tell you how Sarah got where she is, it didn't distract or harm the story at all. If you've never checked out Witchblade, I can recommend this issue for sure. If you've never really had an interest in the world or character then I doubt you're going to be won over here.
