It's time to get back into WITCHBLADE. Ron Marz returns and you won't' be ready for what he has planned. If you haven't read in a while or at all, you can easily start here. We get a nice summary and Marz establishes that time has passed with some mystery as to what has recently happened. As we start to get the pieces to the puzzle, Marz whacks us in the head with an ending that should catch you off guard. If you've ever been curious about WITCHBLADE or haven't read it in a while, this is a good place to start. Ron Marz knows the character, having written her for so long. Despite Witchblade #170 being largely a set-up issue, Marz and Braga do a great job of bringing this series back-to-basics to remind readers why Witchblade was such a compelling book to read. Artist Laura Braga, with colorist Betsy Gonia, makes this issue shine, giving Sara a swagger and sensuality that shows from her hip-swinging first appearance. She's equally at ease providing expressive faces and postures, driving the action as this series receives a much-needed shot in the arm. Read Full Review

I wouldn't say that this issue is a soft reboot like the start of Seeley's run was, but it is a great spot for new readers to jump on. You really don't need to know anything about the series previously and while I couldn't tell you how Sarah got where she is, it didn't distract or harm the story at all. If you've never checked out Witchblade, I can recommend this issue for sure. If you've never really had an interest in the world or character then I doubt you're going to be won over here.
