It is entirely possible that The Slashers Apprentice could become a much more complicated look at the psychological nature of serial killing, and that sort of thing. However, it could also go in a direction of being sort of dark absurd comedy as well. It's kind of difficult to tell whether or not it's going to go one direction or the other. Regardless, it seems fascinating enough that it will be fun to see where it goes in the next couple of issues if nothing else. Theoretically, it could straddle the line between comedy and serious horror/psychodrama. So it will be interesting to see where Richards and Halvorson take it next. Read Full Review

This book doesn't pull punches. It buries the blade and twists. Richards, Halvorson, Nalty, and Beaudoin are the new murder squad on the block, and they ain't playin'. This ain't your average horror comicit's a legacy killer. There seems to be a resurgence of the slasher genre lately both in film and comics. In comics especially, the concept has taken some interesting directions by adding new concepts to the concept. The Slashers Apprentice #1 is an odd duck. Shortcomings in the issues construction actually benefit the issues storytelling. The result is that a narratively thin comic that doesnt have a lot to say for itself ultimately delivers a high level of potential.
