Since I didn't put this issue on my pull list, I had to visit our local bookstore a couple of different times until I found it on the shelves, and I'm glad I went through the extra effort to track it down. While it is nice to see things going right for Peter, I know it won't last long as it seems Spider-Man/Peter Parker is destined to be dumped on time and time again. Dan Slott tells a great tale, and Ramos and the rest of the art team clean up with some fantastic images, and I'm now on board The Amazing Spider-Man for the foreseeable future. With a Spider-Girl backup rounding out the page count, there's a lot of story here even for a $3.99 book. Whether the change is drastic enough to win back the readers who left is debatable but, at the same time, if you've been enjoying "Brand New Day," there should be nothing here that turns you off. Overall, this was a very enjoyable, entertaining issue, as Big Time finally gets underway. If you've been looking for a good time to get back into Spider-Man, this is most definitely it, as it's a fantastic jumping-on point. Plus, the financial commitment of the title is now just two issues a month as opposed to three, and for those concerned about consistency of storytelling, because of Brand New Day having a writing team, this new era boasts just one writer steering the ship, and thankfully he's one who loves continuity, and really loves Spider-Man, his supporting cast, and his villains. Having dropped Amazing SpiderMan a few months back and only marginally following it through other reviewers, I was completely floored by how much Dan Slott and company pack it not his incredible debut issue for the new status quo. This issue hits all the right notes in terms of craftsmanship and entertainment value in a way that should appease disillusioned SpiderMan readers while still exciting those who've been following SpiderMan for the last 101 Brand New Day issues (and beyond). When you add in a superb backup, this is a great jumping on point with and incredible amount of new twists and turns that shows just how exciting the future can be for SpiderMan. I knew from the start that this issue would leave me slightly disappointed because of Ramos' art. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting such a chaotic and crowded first script from Slott. This first issue leaves me very excited for the future of the series, but in and of itself it certainly could have benefited from a tighter, leaner script. Read Full Review
