While Captain Marvel has managed to break free from her magical prison, she hasn't broken free of Enchantress's rage and thus finds an even worse problem waiting for her in New York. It's a problem all too familiar, but with a deadly secret at its heart - one that could destroy Carol if she makes the wrong move. And what about Lauri-Ell vs. Binary? We haven't forgotten about that!
RATED T+
Carols life has been a series of unfortunate events since her first days as Captain Marvel, and this arc continues that trend. Carol is finally being forced to deal with the cost of her actions, after having stripped Ove of his magical prowess, thanks to the Enchantresss lack of understanding whats just at risk. Will it pay off? How will Enchantress deal with her future adult son from a possibly different universe? Not sure, but Im sure the journey will be entertaining at the very least. Read Full Review
Kelly Thompson pushes Carol Danvers' character in exciting directions, allowing her positive character development despite her usual "fight first" mentality. Read Full Review
Frigeri and Lopez deliver fantastic art in the issue. I love the art styles and how they complement each other. Read Full Review
Captain Marvel's trial of magic has come to its satisfying end with issue #41, and longtime fans of the series will delight in how Kelly Thompson brings so many threads together while also pulling at new ones that will undoubtedly lead to new storylines down the line. Read Full Review
It's a rather quiet resolution (despite all the flame-breathing), but that's eminently appropriate for the way this whole "magic prison" story has played out. The "big twist" was made pretty obvious by the previous issue, but it's still quite satisfying to see Carol resolve it correctly.
The art's good. The plot and pace are solid. The dialogue's a little stiff, but that also makes it clear and earnest in a way that helps convey the characters' emotions.
This arc was a bit iffy, but still pretty good.
I'm just going to call this issue the hugging issue. There is so much hugging going on, that it got to cringe levels. At least this storyline has come to an end. I was glad to see Binary go. She was muddying the waters and I still do buy that Carol birthed her from her powerset. The whole trial thing was crap. Also, Amora put a little girl in danger. Not sure what that was about. Let's see where we go from here.
