Nov 15, 2023Writer Stephanie Phillips really left us stocking up on silver bullets! We have to wait until the next full moon to find out if Capwolf can keep control of his gnawing new transformation. Artist Carlos Magno masterfully captured a fantastic portrayal of Capwolf that satisfied my nostalgic needs and immersed me into the scenes. The cover art is what first drew me in, paying homage to the 1992 rendition. Ryan Browns cover left me howling for more! Granted, I know it's not technically a biopic BUT in essence, it is depending on how you view Captain America. Readers get a fun escape that's exciting, easy on the eyes, and chalked full of action with a story that's straightforward and uncomplicated. Mix that together with some art that amplifies the werewolf masterfully and you have one heck of a comic. Read Full Review

Nov 15, 2023Marvel has another hit on their hands with Capwolf. From the team led by Phillips understanding that Captain America to his core will die fighting the forces of evil to the shining moment Dugan and the Commando's truly buy into Cap as the leader they did not know they had. This series is shaping up to be loaded with intense action and suspenseful and horror filled moments. I never knew I needed to see Captain America as a werewolf do battle against a legion of Nazi werewolves but here I am. Every full moon make sure you grab your blanket, lock your doors, and grab Capwolf and the Howling Commandos. Read Full Review

Capwolf is now the leader of the Howling Commandos and prepares an offensive to stop the Nazis' plan to create an army of Werewolves! It is very real, full of great details that deserve to be read carefully, it uses a perfect gloomy tone to give context to this war story of supernatural horror.

World building continues in this issue as we get several pages dedicated to telling the villain's side of the story along with the developments going on with Cap and his crew. There's not too much going on beyond that as new characters appear to provide more information and depth to the story and set up the larger conflict that is sure to come. The art is also pretty good and seeing Dugan punching Capwolf to knock some sense back into him was probably the funniest and best moment out of the issue.

I could (just barely) call it a good comic if it weren't so relentlessly stupid and predictable. My other complaints--the stiff art, the constant anachronisms--I can set aside as subjective.
