The one problem that a series like Future Imperfect suffers from is the emphasis on the fact that this world is futuristic through future slang. It's really not appealing at all. We can see that this world is from a different time and don't need diction that comes off cheesy. A word I really hate to use yet have to because this is a constant that needs to be addressed no matter how small. Aside from this, while we did get to know who this Thing is in Future Imperfect, we don't know much about this rivalry between him and the Maestro. David shows readers that Maestro relishes a challenge, physically and mentally, but seems to always be the best there is at what he does, making those true challenges few and far between. One of those challenges is the resistance movement that the Thing was leading. David keeps that subplot moving forward, but the true payout seems a little ways off. Just as the story gets moving and all of the pieces come together, however, "Future Imperfect" #2 stops. It's just shy of a cliffhanger, more like an eyebrow-raiser, but it is enough to tease readers into returning next issue. Read Full Review

The issue's major let down is at the end where it's revealed this is all a prelude to Maestro making a move on Dr. Doom, the literal God of Battleworld. It's just such a disappointing direction for the series to take, especially give how well Peter David has managed to fit Maestro into the roll of compelling anti-villain. As it stands this is a fun interim issue that sours when it finally betrays where the series is actually heading, here's hoping we get rerouted in issue 3. Read Full Review

Ultimately, Future Imperfect #2 an entertaining book if a reader is looking for a superhero brawl. While the stakes won't hold up for readers new to comics, there's still some fun to be had. There's a lot of potential here if the series can better balance its plotting with its action set pieces. If it can't, it will remain a good-not-great, entertaining-not-exhilarating type of affair.
