KPB Comics - Chris Parker Jr Aug 20, 2025

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2 captures everything fans could hope for in a clash between Marvel's heroes and the King of the Monsters. The issue explodes with blockbuster action and laugh-out-loud character moments, from Spider-Man's quips to Rocket Raccoon riding the Vulture. Gerry Duggan leans into absurd comedy, like Venom's symbiote antics, while still raising the stakes with future-set twists and a looming villain. Read Full Review

I love that Duggan's signature humor doesn't go away during this mammoth-sized story with some of C-list supervillains reacting pricelessly to Godzilla destroying their favorite bar. Read Full Review

    Plot
The comic begins in the year 2099, where an elderly Johnny Storm, with the help of Forge, Riri, and Tony Stark, launches an attack on Godzilla, who has been destroying the world for decades. The attack eliminates Johnny, who has spent decades trying to avenge his family, who disappeared when Reed's device to transport them to the Negative Zone failed.

In the present, Black Panther asks Shuri to discover the new form of Vibranium with unstable molecules; it could be the weapon they need to defeat Godzilla.

In Manhattan, Spider-Man and Daredevil are the only ones left. They have been distracting Godzilla, but they receive help from the villains, and the Venom symbiote almost merges with Godzilla.

Godzilla kicks the hell out of everyone - which is great.

That the heroes are basically useless is not great.
That the villains are even more useless is really not great.
That the villains are written as a comedic afterthoughts doesn't help. Heck, even Stiltman survives fighting Godzilla. Stiltman!?
More comedy with a Saturday morning version of Fin Fang Foom.

For all the devastation, no one has been killed yet except for a future Johnny (who won't exist soon because of an even more comedic usage of (ugh) Herbie).

I'm not feeling the stakes that should be EVERYWHERE by now.
