My one real problem with the script is that Wells seems intent on mining the Pixie/Illyana feud for more gold, when I felt the Hellbound mini-series had put that conflict to rest. Leonard Kirk debuts on the series this month, and he proves to be an instant fit. Kirk delivers eclectic and creepy designs for his villains, and manages to capture all the various emotions and nuances the script demands of him. I thought that the last two issues of New Mutants in Second Coming were a bit off. They seemed to focus more on the cross-over beats than what made the first issues of this series good. This issue is a spectacular return to form. Hopefully they are carrying some readers from the cross-over into this issue to see how good this book can be. Read Full Review
This isn't a terrible book, but it also isn't a blockbuster. It's a pilot episode of a minor network show in the high season of big-screen blockbusters. There's a good story starting up here, and Wells and Kirk are set to make it a better than good story, they just need to ratchet up the action soon. This new threat to the team seems like a fair match, and it will definitely be interesting to see their story unfold. Read Full Review
