YOU CAN'T OUTRUN THE PAST! Rogue has an idyllic life with her sweet Remy LeBeau, but there are still skeletons in her closet...ones that come out when she least expects it. Rogue has worked so hard to leave her villainous past behind. Unfortunately, the past doesn't stay in the past. What happens when it slams you right in the face? What past sin would make Rogue leave Haven House? Do Mystique and Destiny hold the answer?
Rogue #1 was a fantastic start that'll have me very anxiously awaiting the next issue to drop! Erica Schultz and the creative team brought a look back into the life of Rogue, a life that isn't explored anywhere nearly enough. Read Full Review
Rogue #1 is a confident, character-driven launch that understands exactly why Rogue endures as one of the X-Men's most compelling figures. By pairing bombastic action with a haunting reckoning of her past, the issue sets the stage for a deeply personal series that asks what true atonement looks like for a former villain turned hero. While much of the plot is groundwork, the emotional hooks are sharp and promising. Read Full Review
Erica Schultzs Rogue #1 sets up a fresh storyline for Rogue without stepping on the toes of Gail Simones Uncanny X-Men, of which Rogue is an integral part. My recommendation: Rogue #1 is a great expansion to the current Uncanny title but perhaps not the best place for new readers to start with Rogues character. Read Full Review
This story starts out wonderfully, dropping readers into a battle between the X-Men and a giant monster. It's an exciting little fight that shows Rogue as a leader, while reminding readers of her past. This is a great way to start a new issue. New readers might not know that Rogue is a leader (especially if they're X-Men '97 fans but haven't picked up the comics in a while), so showing her in the field and how proficient she is in command is a great thing to show. There's a little tease of which way the story is going to go in the first few pages, and the whole sequence is extremely entertaining. Schultz does a bang-up job of showing why Rogue is one of the X-Men's best superheroines, and she nails the character's individual voice and where she is as a character right now. Even if you don't know a lot about her in the past few years, this story will still work for you. Read Full Review
Rogue #1 delivers a competent character study wrapped in mystery and action, making it worth your money if you care about where the character's going next. The creative team demonstrates genuine skill in pacing and emotional beats, even if some middle-section stumbles keep this from being essential reading. Read Full Review
Rogue #1 is an entertaining issue that explores Rogue's past and should be a nice addition for anyone invested in the character. It falls short of really feeling like it ties to “Shadows of Tomorrow,” which has been an issue in all of the X-Men comics except on so far. It just feels like a spin-off mini-series from the X-comic she's already present in taking up a bit of a nostalgia kick that has fueled numerous Marvel series recently that explore unknown parts of a character's past.
