Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #1 is the adaptation of the second novel in the new Thrawn trilogy, and it has the original author Timothy Zahn working with comic writer Jody Houser, who worked on the first Thrawn comic adaptation. The story is more of a mystery thriller as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader are sent by Emperor Palpatine to locate and eliminate a mysterious new threat to the Empire. Naturally, the two butt heads in their differing methods and leadership, but the two come across as military professionals who can work together despite their differences. Readers can expect some intrigue and action in the first issue of this Thrawn series. Read Full Review
I was pleasantly blown away by Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #1, yet it should be no surprise, given how great the original source material is. Fans of the Star Wars prequels and Thrawn should not miss this exciting new miniseries. The drama between these two villainous tacticians is palpable while this book further cements the fact that Thrawn is the most interesting thing to come out of Star Wars since the original trilogy. After only one issue, we're not entirely disappointed in this book, as it's too early to tell where it's going, but this debut hasn't offered much insight into where the narrative could go or give us much reason to be excited beyond the logline of the series as a whole, so hopefully this premiere issue was just a necessary step in a more fulfilling plan. I only just started the book when I found out this was releasing. So far it seems to be sticking pretty close to the events in the book. The interaction between Vader and Thrawn is where this story shines. The Anakin parts are not as interesting, but I'm sure that will pick up.
