For starters, there's a Big Little Book. Plus monsters, international mayhem, the arrival of heroes in trouble and a deadly threat for Dr. Strange. And apartment problems, phone calls and an audience with Namor of Atlantis. You know, those kinds of things. Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Storm and more, plus the return of a Golden Age great and... Dakota North? Man, when we say "marvels," we mean marvels! Don't miss it - we'd miss you!
Rated T
The premise is compelling and the art is quite lovely, but this issue feels like a little TOO much is happening all at once. Even so, I enjoy seeing the rotating cast and Busiek's dialogue, so I can let it slide. Read Full Review
Just when I thought that The Marvels might be running out of a bit of steam, issue #5 has once again reminded me why I've enjoyed this series so much up until this point. Read Full Review
Cant really see what they are going for here? Maybe if you are into some of the characters and want to see them doing a different storyline. Read Full Review
Feels like a classic already
This is a lot of fun, and very involved in continuity. I don't quite understand the backlash to this issue in particular.
Heroes jump in and out of the core team like jackrabbits and the super-messy plot gradually narrows down toward Cap's dive into Siancong from #1. I'm at the point where I can enjoy this goofy, scattershot, deep-diving story for what it is. It helps that Yildiray Cinar's art strikes the perfect "classic comic books" tone.
I'm a giant Marvel nerd. Giant like, I recognize both Dakota North and Aarkus. I know this is not the first time Steve Rogers has been caught reading Tolkien. I might be the ideal reader for this series. It's a little bit of a shame that I rate it 7.5, the numerical equivalent of saying, "Enh, it's okay, I guess."
I don’t know what this series wants to say or be anymore. It is just so long winded and such a slog every time I pick an issue up. 2 points for Alex Ross cover and half a point because at least Busiek is trying something somewhat interesting with this.
