Had I been reading the title more regularly (or at all the last couple of years) I'm sure the payoff would have been higher. Even with these issues, I still enjoyed the comic and it might even lead me to go back and re-read some of Brian Michael Bendis' run. It's a nice send-off for the character, even knowing Marvel already has a replacement in the wings. It seems in the Ultimate Universe you can't kill Spider-Man, even if you do manage to kill Peter Parker. Worth a look. Read Full Review

If you have been reading this arc, you already know that Bendis has been delivering a young Peter Parker at his heroic best. We've had months to prepare and now the final issue of the arc is here. Bagley and Bendis deliver a fitting end but it's unfortunate that the outcome was spoiled. Realistically, we all have an idea how it will end. This entire story has been about the journey, as all stories should be. Maybe you'll know how it ends before reading and maybe you don't. What matters is what happens on the way there. We get an epic fight showing what this version of Spider-Man is all about. And that is exactly what I want. I could do without the death of characters though. But that's the nature of the beast. Ultimate Spider-Man #160 proved to be a very good issue. Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley teamed up to deliver an arc that showed how Ultimate Spider-Man has been one of the most entertaining comics in the past decade. The balance between the roles Spider-Mans supporting cast and villains played in this arc worked to give the reader an impactful end for a fantastic character. Read Full Review

Issue #160 is a competent finish to the series. Unfortunately, it's not quite as emotionally resonant or gripping as Bendis' best issues. Ultimate Fallout will have to pick up the slack there. But the issue does do justice to a great hero, and it manages to build excitement for the next phase of Ultimate Spider-Man. Read Full Review

Not surprisingly, artist Mark Bagley handles the action adeptly. More importantly, though, he tells the real story on the title character's face. The super-hero violence really doesn't convey the dire nature of what's happening, but the expressions on Peter's face do. Usually, Bagley is trying to get the character to emote through a Spidey mask in these action scenes, so an unmasked Peter brings a new dynamic to the visuals. Read Full Review

Though the polybag in which it came might beg to differ, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160 falls a hair or two short of insta-classic status. As a grand finale -- to the current story arc, to this volume of the series, and perhaps to the life of lead character himself -- it certainly has its powerful moments, but none of them are quite enough to shatter the mold Bendis has cast. Even if you avoided the spoilers in the mainstream press or somehow remained oblivious to this storylines title, you might have been able to venture a pretty accurate guess as to how the events of this comic were going to play out. While I'm fairly negative in tone, the issue isn't bad just fairly underwhelming in the deja vu nature of the reading the same exact fight sequence over and over again between Ultimate SpiderMan and Green Goblin making up the entirety of the issue didn't really wow me at all. Even Wile E Coyote tries something new every time he tries to catch the Road Runner. Osborn or, better yet, Bendis should take some tips. Read Full Review
