I know a lot is being said about Sara Pichelli‘s work as of late in Spider-Men and there's no denying how gorgeous it is but people are really sleeping on how good Marquez's is in comparison. Miles' face as he and Ganke are trying out catchphrases are priceless. Read Full Review

While Im sure some people will cringe at certain moments in the dialogue of this issue, Id like to think that anyone reading USM at this point are all big fans of bad puns and the content being a little more light hearted than brooding.  BMB has created an eminently likable character in Miles Morales and its something I will continue to come back to each month. I don't know where all of this stuff is supposed to fit in, but I still want it. The original Ultimate Spider-Man was slower paced than this. By issue #15, Spider-Man had fought the Green Goblin, Electro and the Kingpin. Miles has fought half a dozen different villains, often in the space of just one issue. Bendis is throwing too much at us too fast. This issue is a good indication of what he can do if he slows down. Read Full Review

Miles is just getting used to being Spider-Man but with 'United We Stand' seeping into these pages, the possibility of big changes are looming on the horizon. This weighs down the issue a little and takes away from the usual fun and storytelling Bendis has been giving us month after month. David Marquez continues to handle the art duties with ease, making this little corner of the Ultimate Universe more vibrant. Ending on a cliffhanger will make you rush to your calendar to count down the days until the next issue. I continue to be amazed at how easily Bendis has made me forget about Ultimate Peter Parker. Marquez's character work is stunning. The construction of emotion and body language is spot-on and adds so much more context to the words of Bendis. These strengths also help what limited action there is in this issue, giving Spider-Man's web-slinging a sense of excitement that can be so easily lost when we see him do it week in and week out. The only significant flaw in artwork is the varying qualities of the backgrounds. Interior backgrounds, particularly in Miles' dorm room, are sterile and bland, but the NYC backgrounds are laced with great detail. Read Full Review

"Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" has not had a bad issue in the bunch, but as Bendis syncs Miles' world more completely with the rest of the Ultimate Universe, some holes are showing through. We've spent so much time with character-building over the last fifteen issues that I think we've missed a bit of world building. I'm sure the book (and Bendis) can easily overcome this, but I suspect a bit of growing pains as we get Miles readers fully acclimated to what's really been going on in the Marvel Ultimate Universe. To be blunt, if you read last issue, you could probably skip this month and not miss a thing. That's ultimately to this book's detriment, because the visual execution is superb, even if the story is absolutely running in place. Just as a heads-up the cover is a lie, Thor, Iron Man and Fury do not show up at any point and Miles doesn't work with the ultimates until succeeding issues, so it gets bumped a bit down for that


but hey, at least it's not a pin-up of spidey posing like all the other ultimate covers
