This issue finally begins to shed some light on Gwen's history and backstory with an introduction to her family and life prior to becoming Gwenpool. There are some interesting twists and turns any follower of the title will be sure to take note off and I for one can't wait until next month when we hopefully get some answers to some long lingering questions. Reality-warping shenanigans take us back to the life of Gwen Poole, lovable real-world comics nerd. Her brother is committed to keeping her in her proper universe - good thing? Right from the start, this arc looks to have superb potential for becoming an all-time great "meta" story. GuriHiru's art is detailed and vibrant as ever, but it's Christopher Hastings' script that truly shines. Pre-Marvelization Gwen Poole emerges as a fragile, achingly empathetic comics fan who's all too easy to identify with. I took a little break from Gweenpool but decided to hop back on board when I flipped through it in my LCBS, saw the artwork, and realized that we're finally getting a sneak peek at Gwenpool's origin. I absolutely love the ending, I don't want to spoil it by giving any other details, you'll know what I'm talking about when you read it.
Gurihiru is back and thank gosh. Gurihiru's art was sorely missed in the past few issues. I'm happy to see Gwenpool the way she was meant to look like. The story is centers around Gwen's life before the teleportation. And it's kinda sad. She really hasn't aspired to anything and you see why she was hesitant to go back to her normal life. Hopefully she gets back soon. Hastings is just telling a good story here so far.
