Uncanny X-Men #495 was a well written issue with plenty of great character work on Scott and Emma. Having said that, there is practically no action in this issue and the pacing is slow. Some fans may be a bit bored with the read that Brubaker delivers in this issue. Still, this is a great time for new readers to hop aboard Uncanny X-Men. And I would certainly recommend giving this title a try. Read Full Review

This issue allows us to take a breather after the beautiful chaos of Messiah Complex, but by all accounts we wont be breathing easy for long. Read Full Review

    IGN - Richard George Feb 6, 2008

This issue tries to push the "team" into a new direction, but does it in the strangest fashion possible. I like breaks from action, but the aftermath of Messiah wouldn't seem to be the time to show a jungle adventure. There's just something off about it to me. And the ending/cliffhanger is even more bizarre, making me wonder if we're treading water until the landmark issue #500, which hits in just a few months. If that's the case, I'd love a little more clarity. If Logan, Peter and Kurt go shopping in Russia next issue, I'm not going to know what to do with myself. Read Full Review

So the issue is functional, with no major problems jumping out at me. The art is pleasant and inoffensive. The writing is consistent in its characterizations, if lacking any big moves forward, but that's what this issue is all about, really. It's a pause for breath after a lot of violence, death, and general mayhem, before the next round of violence, death, and general mayhem begins. I don't think it will make new readers excited about sticking around, but for those who've been with the title for a while, this might be a welcome vacation. Read Full Review

Readers who loved Messiah Complex will probably have fun reading this. Readers who refused to follow it due to the many crossovers can read this and get a good understanding of what is happening now. Im not sure if the next issue of Uncanny is going to be good, but any X fan should consider buying this. Read Full Review

The Weekly Crisis - Kirk Warren Feb 6, 2008

Technically sound writing and art, much like Brand New Day's stuff, but this failed to follow up in anyway on the huge event that just happened, heralds the new status quo for the team, which is identical to the old one minus the New XMen, and just boggles my mind. New readers, and probably most old ones, will still enjoy the book, but I'm just frustrated with it at this point. Read Full Review
