The issue wraps up with a pretty exhaustive interview with industry legend Walt Simonson. Hes always good in an interview, but this one in particular feels like a perfect companion to this issue. What if? Dark Loki #1 takes a classic Marvel story and turns it on its head. Readers who remember the original story will be surprised by the changes this one takes. With stellar artwork, it captures the Marvel version of Norse mythology and contains epic fight scenes. It truly shows how powerful Loki would be if he possessed Mjolnir while still holding onto his own power. The book ends in almost biblical way, perhaps serving as a subtle commentary on the nature of religion. Read Full Review
Simonson still has the chops to write a ripping tale of Asgard, but the art lacks his inventiveness and the sheer amount of story feels cramped by one issue, even a forty pager. Read Full Review
Loki is a character that has evolved exponentially over the years, so to set the book in a time where he was void of all complexity makes for an incredibly boring read. Read Full Review
There's a certain amount of fun in watching this grim proposition play out to its obvious end. And it's satisfying to see that even in victory, Loki gets his comeuppance. This comic would rise a lot higher if Marvel had persuaded Mr. Simonson to draw it, though.
