If you've been reading X-Factor, you absolutely must pick this issue up. Certain events transpire that completely change the dynamic of the rest of the Marvel Universe, there's a literal siege on the palace of a Lord of Hell, but, as always, the book is about the individuals that have made it up for the last approximate ten years. I say approximate because, obviously, not all the characters have been in the book for that long, but those who have seem to have found a place they can truly belong, and grow, outside of their humble origins. I know that Peter David still has issues to go before the series concludes, but if this had been the end it would have been a worthy, if not a little urgent, one. I can't recommend this issue to those who haven't been following the series closely, but I can recommend the collected trade when it comes out to anyone who likes a ton of character in their superhero stories. If anything the ending to this story sold it all. Guido doing the most humane thing he could as someone who lost his soul. He damned himself to be King of Hell, and just to save Monet. Someone who mocked him for having no soul, blamed him for things out of his control, and tried to kill him when she assumed he was her enemy. It was a great story arc from beginning to end, and you can only anticipate the fallout from these events. Rahne has to deal with her son's death, Monet has to deal with her resurrection, and we don't know if Jamie is back to normal. Read Full Review
With this story, David delivered all the epic and grandiose elements that used to be foreign to X-Factor. Now his final arc needs to get back to what the series does best -- exploring the characters and their relationships as they pick up the pieces one last time. Read Full Review

Still, after multiple issues of scaled-up action, a chance of pace would be nice. Hopefully "X-Factor" can end strong on some more character-centric and shorter stories more typical of the book's tenure. David's past form on final issues is impressive (his "Incredible Hulk" and "Captain Marvel" finales spring to mind) so let's hope that "X-Factor" gets the send-off it deservers after so many issues. I really don't like generic fights in which characters don't utilize their powers because it would require making them non-generic. Mephisto blasted two characters, then just forgot to you it again. He also forgot literally everything else he can do while a teenager was inches away from killing him.
Also Polaris just forgot that as someone who can control metal she can just stop the demons from wielding their metal weapons, including Mephisto's trident.
