X-Men 92: House Of XCII #5 cleverly wraps up the series with a flawless combination of beautifully colored art and a script that wonderfully marries the two eras together. Foxe and Espin's House of XCII might be simplified, but it's intended to be just like the animated series in successfully interpreting the deeper works of Claremont, Byrne, Kirby, and both Lee's (Stan and Jim). This series started out strong, but the magic of the 90s wore off quickly. Read Full Review
I'm not someone who watched the animated series as a kid. I've never seen it, really. So I went into this miniseries expecting to be very bored, but it was actually really neat to see how the Krakoan Era was remixed and blended with that continuity.
This finale is of a piece with the miniseries as a whole: messy, and silly, and a little too wordy. And the resolution is a great big reset button; never my favorite narrative strategy.
But I'd probably be more charitable to this story if I was more familiar with the source material; I bet a little rose-colored hindsight would make this a lot of fun to read.
