The new direction the X-Men face and the choosing of sides will give the franchise a nice little boost in keeping the stories fresh, rather than have everyone safe and sitting around Utopia. There have been some parts to the overall story that came and went too quickly. The introduction and use of the new Hellfire Club is questionable and I would be okay with not seeing them again anytime soon. It's a good end to an era. The X-Men have gotten too comfortable on Utopia. Now we have the next era about to unfold before us. Read Full Review

X-Men Schism #5 gave the latest X-Men event an ending with as many positives as it had negatives, which was the case of the entire event. Jason Aaron did a great job presenting both Cyclops and Wolverine sides of the argument. At the same time, Aaron forgot to develop the rest of the X-Mens opinions with all the conflicts going on. Not getting the rest of the X-Mens side of things made the whole choosing of sides lack the punch it should have had. I am looking forward to what happens next but disappointed with the lack of development for everyone outside Cyclops and Wolverine. Read Full Review

Despite an entertaining action scene, "X-Men: Schism" #5 does little to dispel the idea that this was an 'event' book without any true purpose other than where it finishes. It was a means to an end. An interesting new status quo is put in place while also creating some new enemies for the groups, but that is a status quo known before the series even began, leaving this series as more a 'connect the dots' necessity than a story that stands on its own merits. One of the aspects of this book was that I needed to buy in to the "why" of the split and I just don't. I wasn't even that concerned with the believability of Wolverine being able to cut Cyclops in half whenever he wanted to but opts to not during the fight. But the decision to break apart the X-Men needed to be crystal clear and believable and it just wasn't. I liked this issue and series because I do think it was a long time coming but I don't see the split being natural and that falls squarely on the execution of this issue. Read Full Review

This series and issue got us from Point A to Point B, but it wasn't great and I question the art choices in this final issue. But, it does open up a bunch of possibilities for the X-Men. Going forward we can still have the SF based stories that we've enjoyed (without Wolverine in every story) AND cover some new ground with Wolverine's group. Read Full Review

It's hard to keep anything a secret these days but they should have tried because that is what this issue could have had to offer. The art work was lazy in most panels and the writing left me disinterested. Issue 4 was the main event of this mini series. If you are buying comics on a budget, you can leave this on the shelf or at least wait until the second or third printing is released. Read Full Review
