READY PLAYER MORTY-Rick takes Morty to a High School Simulation planet that allows the player to accelerate his experience straight to a diploma in just one day*. Rick repeatedly kills Morty's character, forcing him to restart in more and more vicious (and sometimes illegal) HS experiences - until Morty does things the way Rick wants and finds himself on the brink of intergalactic war. But ultimately Morty will be Morty, no matter what universe or scenario. (*Not Accredited)
Rick and Morty is a property that is quickly becoming a sure thing, but as this eleventh issue shows, all the jokes in the world don't amount to much if you don't care about the characters telling them. Pamela Ribon clearly cares about Rick and his dysfunctional family and she wants us to care to, so she delivers a story where they are more than just joke machines, they are people; weird, semi-broken, and wanting people. Aided by the show accurate colors and pencils of Ryan Hill and Marc Ellerby, Rick and Morty #11 is the kind of story that would be right at home on your TV screens and one that you give to any reader on the fence about this property and have them be converted. I'm impressed a one shot story carried a fully developed subplot so effectively, it was actually better than the main plot.
