Comic Crusaders - Johnny Hughes Feb 8, 2016

Spiral is a great showing for Aspli and Dimaya, each adding weight to what many may see as just another crime noir story. However, reading the book, there is a strong sense of expectations, which used to be the driving force behind characters like Peter Parker, living up to his Uncles ideals. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke Feb 8, 2016

It's Batman meets Goodfellas meets Sopranos. If you like one of those or all three you must read this book! This is building towards a hero's origin story, effectively establishes a crime story between two families and instantly makes you interested in the characters. The story has a lot of moving parts and manages to keep them all going Very much worth a read and your kickstarter backing! Read Full Review

    GWW - Cory Anderson Mar 25, 2016

This is only the opening act of a four-part story, and I can't wait to read more. This book has everything I love in a story; a vigilante seeking vengeance and a crime organization with ambitious members. It will be really interesting to see how these two families try to stay afloat in the havoc caused by the spiraling-out-of-control chaos they each brought upon themselves. As of right now, each of the four issues will be run through Kickstarter, so everyone who missed out on issue #1 can get that when the campaign for issue #2 launches in a few months. And, of course, once the story is complete, Aspli and Dimaya, who have been working on this project since late 2013, will take the series to Comixology and possibly the Direct Markets! For now, keep an eye onKickstarter to catch up. Help support this vigilante-crime noir continue its violent and intriguing story. Read Full Review

    Comicsverse - Marco Cunalata Feb 3, 2016

Overall, SPIRAL deserves a second read to capture all its subtleties and to get a better grasp of the plot. While it may be a bit rushed, it does its job of introducing you to the story and leaves you wanting more, which is at the heart of any promising comic. You can support the SPIRAL team here! Comic Bastards - Dustin Cabeal Feb 12, 2016

At the end of the day I'm not sure if the story is elevating the art or the art is elevating the story. If anything it shows a strong collaboration at work. This first issue hiccups in places. It's not smooth and perfect and again it's more complex than it needs to be with its design and story elements, but the bottom line is that I would read the next three issues. Capeless Crusader - Kristian Solberg Jan 29, 2016

Spiral #1 approaches a well-known genre from a fresh angle. Focusing on how two families on opposite sides of the law are handling a generational shift is an interesting take, and the issue attempts to build a legacy that stretches far beyond the events of this single issue. While the writing feels cluttered at times, and leans far too heavily on exposition to progress its story, the art manages to balance the reader's impression of the comic well. It'll be interesting to see where the second issue in this series takes things, but hopefully it slows down a bit, allowing its countless story threads to develop further in subsequent issues. Big Comic Page - Andrew McGlinn Feb 6, 2016

Honestly, while there's probably a good idea in here somewhere, I simply can't in good conscience recommend Spiral. It's a frustrating mess of an execution of what has the potential to be an excellent story, something which just makes it all the more infuriating. Read Full Review
