It recently came to my attention that Valiant is in a sales slump, perhaps the new car smell has worn off, but I have a hard time believing that it can be argued that this series has lost any of its luster. Van Lente is doing an incredible job in capturing the voices of two unique and compelling characters, and then putting them in creative and entertaining circumstances. And now that he is paired with a talented artist like Lupacchino, look out. I would argue that this series, and not X-O Manowar, is the jewel in the Valiant crown, and it deserves the golden treatment. As quite possibly the biggest Eternal Warrior fan around, I'm overjoyed at the return of one of my favorite comic book characters of all time to the printed page, even though I'm a little disappointed at how one dimensionally he's portrayed during his re-introduction. There's plenty of time for character development later though when he gets his own series (HINT HINT Valiant!). Regardless of The Eternal Warrior's eventual future, Archer & Armstrong remains one of the most fun, action packed, and best reads being published right now. Read Full Review

Wow! I enjoy reading Archer and Armstrong every month, but this month the art really seems to jump right out of the pages. In the medium of the comic book, which the general public often thinks of as frivolous and disposable, it's nice to know some artists still try to use one- and two-point perspective to add depth to their work. Ok, maybe this issue was a little light on the comedy compared to previous ones, but you will chuckle more than once still. It's the beginning of a new arc and is laying the groundwork for a much larger tale. Fill in artist Emanuela Lupacchino nails the action perfectly. During a scene when Gilad is chasing Armstrong down with a bus, I could practically hear the Terminator soundtrack in my head. Fred van Lante is excellent, as always, deftly balancing all elements of the plot, inserting unforced funniness where possible, and pacing everything well. This was a good issue and I’m sure that it’s only going to get better in the next issue. I just wish that the focus wasn’t on introducing the Eternal Warrior and rather continued with A&A. Especially now that Archer is alone and we have no idea where his “sister” with the glowing eyes ran off to. I enjoyed what little development happened between their characters in this issue, but would really if the issue had spent the entire time on the running developing them and then EW arrived at the end, I think it would have been more impactful. I’m still looking forward to the next issue and the possibilities of a spin off from this storyline. Read Full Review
