I really want to tell you all more, but I don't want to ruin this issue for you! I really want everyone to go preorder this comic! I mean, I love all Valiant's stuff, but it's so fun to see a lighter side! I missed A&A! Read Full Review
Archer and Armstrong Forever #1is a witty, action-packed ride that doubles as the perfect entry point into the Valiant Universe. Valiant has been turning out a string of hits this year, and I hope the publisher keeps it up as its roster of characters is just as interesting as the big guns of Marvel, DC, and Image. One of the more interesting things to me about Armstrong was that due to the nature of how he became immortal, he always knew it would end at some time, and so it's brilliant seeing his casual nonchalance about the potential imminent end he's facing whereas Archer is less than thrilled. Given that a lot of the stories around the pair tend to have Armstrong acting as a damage sponge in darkly humorous ways, I'm looking forward to following the series to the conclusion of the arc. It's a great starting point and continued journey for these beloved characters that Steve Foxe handles with great care allowing each to shine with their distinctive personalities. The controlled chaos and gags pay off making this an enjoyable silly ride. Archer & Armstrong is back on their BS again and not a moment too soon. Comics need some superhero shenanigans and A&A is here to save the day. Read Full Review
ARCHER & ARMSTRONG FOREVER #1 is an odd comic to wrap your head around. The art is fantastic on every level, and the technical execution of the writing is practically flawless. That said, the characters have no reason to exist other than to be odd, and being odd is not much of a reason to hook the reader. Read Full Review
Am I giving the first issue way too much credit? Possibly. But the premise of Armstrong's immortality on the fritz with him and Archer trying to find ways of doing that has a lot of nuance that gives me time to think.
Am I trying to raise my own website while doing this? I guess, but unlike Comical Opinions most of my reviews requests are for Kickstarters. Except for Valiant and Mad Cave and I regular get advance copies for reviews from them. Anyway I'll be updating this page as the series goes on: https://gutternaut.net/2022/05/archer-armstrong-forever-how-to-prolong-longevity/
