Batman Vol. 1: The Court Of Owls

Apr 28, 2020

Snyder starts off his Batman run strongly with the court. He creates an ominous group of villains that rewrites the history of Gotham. Capullo art is the best in business too.

Batman Vol. 2: The City Of Owls

The court of owls volume was stronger than this second volume since the set up doesn’t seem to be as well as executed for a climax. I loved the world building but to me the ending wasn’t as climatic as I was expecting; especially from all the hype. But overall a great read and start for this Batman run.

Batman Vol. 3: Death Of The Family

Snyder knows how to write one of the most frightening and tricky Joker in the history of the character; he has no face for gods sake! My only gripe is that the name of the title expects there to be a death and it’s reused from an older story. Capullo continues to impress with his art!

Batman Vol. 7: Endgame

Now this is how you write an epic battle between joker and Batman. Next to dceased, this story is my second favorite epidemic type story that DC has put out; very scary and believable. Capullo was born to draw the darker side of Batman and he is at his prime in this volume. The “Metal” aspect to the story can be a little convoluted but it’s still a great thrill ride.

Batman Vol. 8: Superheavy

I was so pumped to see a change-up in the Batman dynamic; Iron Man Batman! The art and coloring is fantastic as always. Mr. Bloom is a great character and adds to the ominous Gotham rogues gallery that Snyder has created. The only gripe about the volume is I think Snyder brought Bruce back way too quickly.

Batman Vol. 9: Bloom

Apr 28, 2020

My complaint from the previous issue to bring Bruce back too soon is my opposite critique for this issue, seemed Bruce coming back as Batman took too long to bring back. The twist at the end with the "Black Sun" was a bit confusing. Otherwise, Capullo again has amazing art and Mr. Bloom was a great sinister villain. Snyder was my first intro to Batman in comic form and he did not disappoint. Great way to end his run on the character.

DCeased Collected

I ate this volume up, pun intended! My only negative about this event was the "look at your cell phone and you become a zombie", reminded me of the cheesy Japenese horror movies from the late 90s early 2000s. The ebb and flow of the events in the book had a great rhythm; it wasn't too wordy nor convoluted.
