The Bat-Man: First Knight (2024) #2 |
Apr 9, 2024 |
An improvement on an already fantastic first issue! It has its problems no doubt, but nothing that severely disrupts my enjoyment. The story is still intriguing, the art is stunning and the dialogue has improved, if only a bit. I struggle to think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy this in some way. Come on man, has got purple gloves and knuckle dusters. What's not to like? I feel like this is one of the best Bat books releasing right now and I'm sad it's coming to an end so soon. All good things must come to an end! |

Batman & Robin: Year One (2024) #1 |
Oct 18, 2024 |
Did it meet my expectations? You betcha. If you can't tell by now, the art is absolutely astounding, I'm almost definitely going to be getting the noir edition when it releases. the story is just getting going, but the character dynamics and the way everyone is written certainly makes it seem like Waid knows what he's doing, if you were ever in any doubt. At the end of the day, there's nothing more I could ask for. Here's hoping the story stays at such a high standard! |

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family: Robin Lives! (2024) #2 |
Aug 15, 2024 |
I'm so very glad that this series is continuing to be well-made. Jason Todd is the subject of many a fan discourse and it's often hard to think of him as Robin rather than his Red-Hood alias. Peeling back the layers of time and examining the boy that he was is a really interesting way of looking at him, and honestly one of his best-written stories in quite some time. I'm quite the sucker for father-son conflict in stories so this is right up my alley. All in all, keep up the good work creative team and I'll see you next month. |

I'm really happy this series has kept up in the quality department. I would've it to crumble a bit by now but no, the standards are still held high. I'm itching to see what we get next month and to see if this book can end as strongly as it started. |

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family: Robin Lives! (2024) #1 |

Wow. I am very surprised. I thought this was going to feel like a soulless cash grab. What I got was a well-thought-out story that not only helps us feel empathy for our heroes but critiques them as well. We have been getting far too many "Batman is flawless stories as of late, so this took me by surprise. I am very intrigued to see if this level of quality can be sustained. |

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries (2024) #9 |
Sep 7, 2024 |
You may be thinking, Chip, why the glowing review? Why so lenient today? I have decided to stop reviewing this series. Looking at it critically month upon month is not something that I find particularly fulfilling anymore. Although I'm more than glad I ended on this one. If this book should be anything, it's this issue. It's sweet and full of charm and nostalgia. Godspeed Batman & Scooby-Doo, godpseed. |

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age (2024) #1 |

I love Elseworlds. Am I happy it's back? Yes, absolutely. Am I worried? Also yes. It's fairly obvious to see the cash-grab possibilities inherent with bringing back an old imprint. People buying into it for nostalgia as well as getting new fans onboard is a sure fire way to make money without necessarily having to make it good. This first issue was good, and if it keeps up, will certainly instil a confidence for this revamped title. |

The Bat-Man: First Knight (2024) #3 |

This brings us to the end of First Knight. It's been one of my favourite Black Label series (not that there's much competition) and I'm really glad I got a chance to review it. the ending doesn't completely land for me, but it's more so tolerable than bad. It's a shame that this is my least favourite issue of the bunch but hey, at least I got to see those purple gloves. |

Batman: Full Moon (2024) #1 |
Oct 19, 2024 |
It's a very solid start. There's some pacing issues cutting back and forth between our two main characters, and possibly too many people in the story, but these can all be fixed with relative ease. I enjoy the Talbot sections of the story much more than the Batman side, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I love me some werewolf. Subic's art isn't for everyone, and even though I love it, there are a few designs I might tweak. In the end though, an enjoyable book to both read and look at, and does what it sets out to do. It makes Batman feel outmatched. excited to see where it goes! |

:Better than last month's issue for me, and I appreciated the story and art direction. This series does have me wishing for an issue with a different twist next month. Maybe with a different Batman like Terry or Dick? These adventures are fun one-offs don't get me wrong, but you know what they say about variety being the spice of life, |

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries (2024) #6 |

I'm someone getting a bit fatigued in this series. "Good enough is fine, but not something that can be kept up indefinitely. I really think allowing some longer mysteries would really help and be great for young readers, easing them into reading big arcs as they get older. Other than my general feelings towards this series, this issue was one of the better ones. Not enough for it to be great, but definitely a solid entry. |

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age (2024) #2 |

More of a mixed bag this time. I am intrigued by all the story elements, really I am. They just move on too quickly for me to be invested in any great detail. The art is fantastic and a good-looking book will keep me reading. You need good writing to make it memorable. Reading this asAbsolute Powercomes out is quite fitting. Good-looking books, with writing that lets it down. I know set-ups can be a risky bet. Here's hoping the next one can cash in the chips. |

It's alright. I think it's fair to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as last month's, but it's not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. My best advice would be to pick one up for a kid, or maybe wait for a the trade so you can pick it up whenever you need some lighthearted reading. |

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong (2023) #6 |

I am afraid that this review will give the impression that I hate this book. I don't, though I'm not exactly its biggest fan either. While I said I didn't expect much in the way of writing for this story, I would've liked to have been proven wrong. It's gone exactly where I thought it was and the only thing I'm left wondering is how they're going to manage to wrap everything up in one issue. |

There really isn't anything new I have to say here. No continuing plot to discuss and just overall thoughts of "it's fine seem to plague these reviews. I would love for one of these issues or this series to blow me away, but I have a feeling that's not going to happen. Just one story arc, I beg. |

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age (2024) #3 |
Aug 15, 2024 |
This whole book feels like an extended cameo fest. A quick "ooh look at this character in this world and then moving on. I'm waiting and hoping for the threads to start being woven into a bigger tapestry so we can start focusing on some individual stories. The amount trying to be put into this book honestly detracts from the overall quality of the book and doesn't allow me to give it a high rating. |

With the launch of All In and Absolute, I went in expecting to see a lot of mediocre books. I thought that if those books weren't too good, I'd at least have this book to fall back on. A good conclusion to a good story. Who'd have thought I'd end up enjoying those books far more than this one? The art and colouring is as good as ever, which is the only real saving grace here. The writing just isn't there. A real disappointment, I really hoped we'd have a strong finish. To end on a slightly positive note, I wish all you readers a happy Halloween. Stay spooky! |

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong (2023) #7 |
May 21, 2024 |
When the last issue was released, I claimed that I didn't hate this series. While I still wouldn't say I hated it, I definitely like it less. What annoys me the most is that I should have loved this issue! It has everything I expected, so why didn't I like it? It just doesn't feel cohesive in the atmosphere with the rest of the series. So far we've had inconsistent character designs, but this issue has a whole different problem with consistency. I'm sure it'll satisfy the Monsterverse fans out there, but I don't see many other people who would enjoy it. |
