With lots of conflict and combat, alternating colors from Jasen Smith and gritty line work from Jorge Santiago illustrate the action to parallel the critical tone. Pepose wraps it up with all important questions answered, and a sense of relief. With the success of this comic being picked up for a feature film by the producer of the Hitman movies, we hope to see more from the team! Read Full Review
I had such a high level of expectations going into this last issue and let me tell you, they were more than met. The story wrapped up just how it should have, the creativity never dropped from how it started, and I finished reading with a sense of satisfaction. I'm not sure if I want the series to come back again so I can get more or have it permanently end here to maintain integrity. Regardless of what does happen, this is one title that I cannot recommend enough to readers to buy right away. Read Full Review
Butin a way, Im disappointed in Spencer& Locke. Disappointed that its ended, and disappointed Ill have towait indefinitely for the next installment. Perhaps four issues was too short, but Id much rather see four very well done issues, than see it padded out tomake the obligatory six most trade paperbacks are comprised of. Lower pagecount = lower price point = more sales. Thats my story and Im sticking to it. Read Full Review
A dark and unique mash up of detective story and the beloved comic strip that adds to the original without tarnishing it. Read Full Review
Looking at this book as a cheap attempt to cash in on aneasy twist on a beloved IP would be insanely short sighted. While not perfectit does great work at showcasing a dark side of something that has mostly beenseen as sweet or innocent fun in the past, and just how far a human can go tocope with something it can't easily deal with. There's so much that could have gone wrong with this mash-up, but Peopose and Santiago's risky premise paid off. And it's little wonder the movie rights have already been optioned. Read Full Review
Spencer and Locke has been a really great series (no wonder it has been optioned for film). With a great crime/mystery as the base of the story, Spencer and Locke is also a psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes until the very end. The creative team has been all-around great, delivering a wonderful comic book that delivers on all ends. Read Full Review
'Spencer and Locke' has been heart-stopping and hear-breaking. What may have seemed like a clever gimmick in incorporating the childish wonder of 'Calvin and Hobbes' and turning it on it's head with a grittier darker version became a sobering account of abuse and tragedy. A mentally jarring journey down the road to forgiveness and justice. 'Spencer and Locke' is that diamond in the rough you hear about when a new book from a small publisher just knocks your socks off. This is one of the year's best. Read Full Review
I'm still on the fence with this one - it's a solid story, with the twists and turns one expects with a mystery, and some good revelations about Locke's story. But it still feels very derivative. I wish the creative team had told the story on its own terms, rather than cribbing so much from a classic. Read Full Review
From Santiago's artwork to the surprise twists and turns Pepose has laid out Spencer & Locke #4 is a must read especially if you have kept up with the series so far. Read Full Review
Admittedly I have flip-flopped on this book, initially loving the Calvin aspectsbefore moving past that an into a harsher stance. For a book that leans onthe strips of yesteryear, acceptance will no doubtdepend on your frame of mind when reading. In the end, Locke is an interesting enough character to carry the story;theCalvin bits have been fun although I doworry about repetition being a problemifAction Labs are looking for any sort of longevity.
