This is an audacious comic. I've never had need of that word before but it fits here. I'm not even sure I like it, but it's just so different than anything I've ever seen, and I've read thousands upon thousands of comics to mind-melting effect. I am in awe. It won't be the same reading it in the inevitable collected edition, where it will just feel like the drawn-out illustrating of a fight, but here as a floppy, it's a unique artifact, true artistic expression wrapped in the middle of a silly genre mash-up. If you loved Shaolin Cowboy to death, but for some reason though it needed to dispense with the speech bubbles, this might be your dream issue. Yet that doesn't stop Darrow's distinctive voice from shining through, and we can almost hear Lord Evelyn Dunkirk Winniferd Esq. the Third commenting on the events as they literally tumble out before us. That's it. Doesn't sound like much, but for art buffs like me, this is an experience and a half. Throw in the expectation of what could they possibly do after these two insane issues and despite the ZERO story-building, I can't give this comic a low rating " that should say something. Okay, if you are still here, still reading this, I'll assume you, like me, love Shaolin Cowboy. If you do, the endless carnage of this issue is a treat. Yes, it's certainly not the best Shaolin Cowboys, it is certainly missing that trademark humor and wit, but holy crap is it pretty. You'll get lost in it. It sucks you in because you simply can't believe how long it's going on for. Some much death, some much blood and guts. It's a whirlwind of violence that you simply can't look away from. Writer and artist Geof Darrow is well known for his hyper-detailed work. The stuff he spins out is gorgeous to say the least, and this issue is no exception. It's just so monotonous I'm not sure what to make of it. To simplify it, there are pages and pages of the same thing here, which is the cowboy spinning around cutting zombies to pieces. Flip through this in five seconds and you get the idea. If you sit and linger on things though, you'll see the real reading pleasure comes in eyeballing the details. Read Full Review

My recommendation for this really depends on your tolerance for repetitive scenes and how willing you are to delve into the deep meaning of a comic like Shaolin Cowboy. If what I've described here sounds awesome and like the greatest deepest statement about life, the universe, and everything then have at it but everyone else I'd recommend leaving this one be. $4, 33 PAGES!! NO ADS!! ... This is an incredible book that blurs the lines of comic book with artistic experiment. It would be easy to condemn a comic absolutely no dialog, text or even signs of plot but this is a piece of art. 33 pages of zombie massacre which puts BS 'zombie comics', like the walking dead, to complete shame. Clearly the art is amazing, every zombie has its own details and personality, and the endless zombie gore-fest challenges my notion of narrative. Some wont get it, others wont be able to fit it into their notions of what comics should be. The rest of us will just smile and re-read it until the pages fall apart. Brilliant i say, absolutely brilliant.
