The TMNT are teleported to a world of talking animals-the world of Usagi Yojimbo! When the samarai rabbit embarks on a quest to save Japan and the deadly Jei blocks his path, a Turtle team-up may be the only chance for survival!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Usagi Yojimbo #1 is undoubtedly one of the best issues of the year. Sakai has been pumping out comics at peak quality for 30 years, and this one-shot is further evidence of his skill. If you've never read an issue of Usagi Yojimbo, this is the perfect entry point. Comics don't get much better than this. Read Full Review
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES/USAGI YOJIMBO #1 delivers on the entertainment factor in spades. 20 years after the last comic crossover series, Sakai has still got it and delivers a fun, action-packed, and hilarious new adventure featuring the Turtles and the rabbit ronin. If you are not familiar with the Usagi Yojimbo series, Stan Sakai and his connection to TMNT then I can see where this issue might throw off newer readers (plus the $7.99 price tag), but for the mastery of Stan Sakai it is well worth it. You can also purchase a hardcover edition of this Issue with some great character designs and drawings from Sakai. It has been over 20 years since TMNT and Usagi Yojimbo have met in comic book format! Fans of both series or just comic book fans in general are not going to want to miss out on this epic journey! A great and fun story that I really enjoyed. I love the art and the folk lore-y style of Sakai's storytelling. Read Full Review
Ultimately, while the story itself isnt necessarily anything to write home about, Sakai handles this reunion with care and affection, providing an energetic and ultimately rewarding crossover that fans will absolutely love. And, if you consider yourself a fan of either the rabbit bodyguard or the heroes in a half shell, this should be viewed as an essential purchase. Read Full Review
A fun battle comic featuring the heroes in a half-shell and the long lasting samurai bunny that is more accurately titled, "Usagi Yojimbo ft. TMNT." Read Full Review
i really like that Stan Sakai still draws the Turtles the same way he did when he drew the Usagi cross-overs with the Mirage Tmnt.
Usagi even mentions the existence of the Mirage Turtles and that these Turtles are different.
this was a fun little easy breezy adventure. it almost felt like it could even be made into a cartoon short.
while i really wish this one-shot could have been longer, i'm just grateful to have even gotten it.
it even had the Leonardo vs. Usagi duel that i was hoping it would.
there is even a hardcover reprinting of this story released that contains most of the variant cover art, as well as a reprinting of the very first Tmnt/Usagi cross-over.
References previous Usagi stories that I haven't read yet, but it is friendly to new readers so I didn't feel lost. A fun done-in-one story that you can jump right into and enjoy.
