I really dug this issue.  Everything from the art, to the setup, to the surprise ending, it was all just excellent.  Just the idea of pairing up Constantine with Doctor Fate was something that tickled me in a strange way that I'm not ashamed to say that I liked.  But like a lot of these Futures End titles they keep giving tidbits of exposition about the mysterious Earth 2 war and I find myself caring about that more than what led from it.  Don't get me wrong, this issue was enough without the explanation, but after reading all these event titles, I want that story more than ever.  So go check it out and see what this Dark character is doing Five Years From Now. Constantine: Future's End #1 fully takes advantage of the con man Constantine is with the build up to a trick that no one could have seen coming. He's the type of guy to pull a rabbit out of his hat at the very last-minute after jerking your chain that he can't. This issue is dark, emotional, and brings Constantine down to Earth in a way which kind of humbles a man who always thinks himself the smartest man in the room. Read Full Review

While I'm still not entirely convinced on the necessity of the Futures End gimmick month (or, indeed, even the underlying point thereof), there have been a few strong stories being told in the midst of the chaos, and this is one of them. There are a few references to the greater world, but it's mostly just the main character in a battle of wills in a locked room, and it's glorious in its simplicity. Fawkes does a decent job of digging into Constantine and explores the nasty heroics of the character, but fans of Fate might not be too happy with this one as Fawkes paints him as almost entirely villainous. Read Full Review

Constantine: Futures End #1 is a book with a good base that feels like it is lacking something. Now, that could easily just be me here despite some weak dialogue and odd pacing. Personally, if you have been enjoying the series up until now, I'm sure you'll enjoy this issue and want to check it out. Totally disconnected from Constantine's appearance in the regular "Futures End" series, "Constantine: Futures End" #1 is more like an extra-special, continuity-lite (or heavy, depending on how much of this comes to pass) issue of "Constantine." This comic book serves as a nice interlude from current goings-on in John Constantine's own title, but also gives readers a chance to see the helmet of Fate and the wit of Constantine matched against one another in a compact, entertaining setting. Surprising me isn't easy, and yet Constantine's Futures End outing has managed to do it. It's not a perfect story, and it's not even really a Futures End story, but it's a good look at what Constantine is capable of when he puts his mind to it, and shows that magic has interesting sub-clauses to it that make what Constantine does possible. i don't usually pick up this book , but I may start if this is the usual caliber one can expect.This has been one of the better "Futures End" one shots.

Constantine VS FATE = Chills & Thrills! Despite not reading Constantine for awhile, AND the time-jump/FE tie-in, this issue is excellent and makes me eager to read Constantine again. Maybe after i read the BLIGHT TPB. . . . . NOTE: DC promised $3 & $4 covers. i only saw the $4 ones, over 3+ shops! SCAM?!?
