Doctor Fate travels to Egypt, where the young hero discovers that an ancient, malevolent superpower is making things unduly difficult for his ancestral homeland.
Similar to the first arc of the series I find myself uncertain of where Levitz and Liew want to take Doctor Fate. It's a curious journey that feels a little more like an indie title but not fully committed to digging into the bigger issues or philosophies to make it stand out. It's engaging and interesting but it's lacking a strong enough narrative focus with the story itself to carry it from issue to issue as a monthly, which has me curious if it reads better in trade form. Liew's artwork continues to be a delight and this installment is no exception, especially with how cartoonish he gets at the end with the Centurions and their presentation. I like the look of the book and the characters, especially with the color work that Loughridge does, and that makes the book a joy to read just from that alone. Read Full Review

In a classic Peter Parker set-up, several of the comic's issues deal with Khalid's absence (he is in Egypt after all) and how his new responsibilities are hurting both his family life and school. Even after he gets himself free from the embassy our hero still has plenty of challenges to face. Worth a look. Read Full Review
Doctor Fate is losing what little steam it had as it approaches Rebirth because now we're just given issues where things happen without so much as one explanation about why or how. I have not been a fan of this series at all and now I'm just counting down the days until it's gone because in ten issues we really haven't gotten anything that makes this character interesting and for the majority of the series, not even hero like. I feel like every issue at this point is like a roller coaster. High points riddled with low points.
After every issue of Doctor Fate I always feel like it could be better. It's not a bad title but it feels like it's not living up to its potential. With rebirth looming, I feel like this comic will never hit its stride as it is one of the books on the chop block. It's a pity...
Ok...this issue went from really cool to absolutely stupid in the final two pages, I mean, come on, ROMAN CENTURIONS, I know the Romans actually have a lot to do with Egyptian history, but come on, and why does the art degrade in the final page?
