Trapped in the Nightmare Realm, Mary Marvel thinks she’s discovered her greatest fear-but she is wrong. She won’t emerge from her dreamscape the way she entered it…at least not if the Nightmare Captain has anything to say about it!
Knight Terrors -Shazam #2is an enjoyable addition to the Knight Terrors event and an excellent chance for Mary to momentarily get some time in the spotlight. This two-issue tie-in stands out as one of the best-constructed and executed series in the Knight Terrors event. Read Full Review
Some of the nightmares are surprisingly affecting, particularly Darla's fear of being surrounded by larger, more powerful people who can overpower her at any time. This is probably the best segment of the issue. On the other hand, many of the others just feel like comic reliefparticularly Pedro's fear of being pantsless in front of an audience or Freddy's fear of having a tiny head? Read Full Review
Knight Terrors: Shazam #2 uses family to dispel the horror. It's a bit of a shock considering how the previous chapter was one of the more dramatic and scary first issues of the whole event. And that final moment is more than creepy enough to make up for what the rest of the issue lacks. Read Full Review
Knight Terrors: Shazam #2 puts its own unique spin of the nightmare realm concept and creates something that is actually hopeful and endearing. Read Full Review
A thematically fitting and engaging conclusion that properly engages with an underappreciated character in what could've been a completely inconsequential tie-in story. Read Full Review
Knight Terrors: Shazam! operates by the same ill-defined dream logic of so many other miniseries in this event, but finds itself much more appreciated for binding that oddity to the heart of an already excellent ongoing series. Read Full Review
Knight Terrors: Shazam! #2 ends the two-parter with big action, the SHAZAM! family getting their powers back (briefly), and a walk-through of Mary Marvel's siblings. The art is great, and Mary Marvel gets her time to shine, but this issue, like most Knight Terrors tie-ins, is ultimately pointless. Read Full Review
Mary is more interesting than Billy. Prove me wrong. Another highlight of the Knight Terrors event because Mark Waid is writing it.
My rating of an 8 is based on the fact this is a tie in to an event that is frankly quite weak. Not terrible, just weak.
What type of stuff should you expect out of this? Just dumb fun. Mary goes around and gives her families powers back, and helps the mom and dad out. Essentially acts as the Dream Police for her family. Its fun, its dumb, it doesnt mean much. The last pages though suggest the nightmare creations are manifesting in the real world, hinting at what the conclusion issue to this event will be.
The art is great though, every page has such great colours and panelling.
TLdr, its a dumb, fun read with great art. Don't expect much but if you turn your brain off you will have a good time.
The Shazam! tie-in for Knight Terrors ends on a good note. I'm not a big fan of Cruz's art, but I thought Waid's story was good enough. It wasn't anything extraordinary, but it was still entertaining. I thought it was a nice story about Mary helping her family members when they needed it and then them doing the same for her. It was nice, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to the regular Shazam! run from Waid and Dan Mora, as it's been super interesting thus far.
