The Machine Queen part 5! The Swamp is dead. The machines rule the planet. Alec Hollands greatest foes are arrayed against him, and the few allies he has left have gone into hiding. It is the end...unless the Swamp Thing can return to the beginning, to fix his greatest mistake.

    Shadowhawk's Shade - AJ Feb 9, 2015

As before, Jesus Saiz is the artist on this issue, with June Chung on colours and Travis Lanham on the letters. The Alec Holland monstrosity created by the Machine Queen definitely stands out, as do the rest of the characters, especially in that kickass ending when the shit really hits the fan and Swamp Thing confronts Anton Arcane after all. The colours too are incredible and I think that both Jesus and June make for a really solid art team, one that deserves all the praise that it can get, and then some more on top of that. The visual story flow is great, the changes in the panel structure is great, everything is great basically. Read Full Review

Geeked Out Nation - Jideobi Odunze Feb 5, 2015

Swamp Thing #39 takes a big step in this chess game where everyone looks to be making their powerplays. The Machine Queen and Holland are doing what they have to do for their Kingdoms and that means a sacrifice has to be made in some form. Again we know the ending for this story, though everything in-between is up in the air when these unpredictable forces come to a clash. Read Full Review

    IGN - Jesse Schedeen Feb 5, 2015

It's a dark issue, but little elements like the quirky pop culture references of A Calculus help keep things balanced. And needless to say, Jesus Saiz offers another visually bedazzling effort. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Robert Reed Feb 4, 2015

Swamp Thing#39 is another great chapter in what has been one the New 52's strongest series since its inception. Charles Soule and Jesus Saiz have both contributed to the series' quality, and while it's unfortunate that the series is ending in a month, the stage is set for the finale to be stellar. Infinite Comix - Daren Taveras Feb 6, 2015

The many flaws that the penultimate issue of Swamp Thing expresses will leave a bitter taste on the palette of fans of the series. With a rushed premise, uneven pacing, and character development issues, Swamp Thing #39 is a hard read. There are a few things that readers will enjoy, but it doesn't save the overall experience of the dull book. Read Full Review
