As the action draws to a close, the future of the DCU is set! It all leads back to one moment in space and time that will change the fate of two worlds! A tie-in to EARTH 2: WORLDS END #26!
Tim Drake is launched on his career as the new Batman Beyond, and it promises to be a journey full of unexpected detours. He has won for the moment, but the preview for next week's issue shows that Brother Eye is not yet completely destroyed, and interviews and solicits speak of disasters and apocalypse worlds. This series has often felt aimless and incoherent. But if it does not succeed completely in its immediate purpose, it will likely not fail completely in its longer term goal. It is asking too much of the future series to redeem all that has gone wrong with this one. But, maybe it can make it, in balance, worthwhile. And any parent should wish that from a child. Everything that we've been dealing with during the past year is all up for grabs here as shit has gotten real. It's the second to last issue and man are the writers bringing "it" as this story concludes. I hope everyone is still reading Futures End because the payoff is here and on top of this being an excellent installment to the story, it hypes the hell out of the final issue next week.. Go get your future on before it ends. Read Full Review
Overall good issue, looking forward to next week's finale. If you haven't read this series pick up a trade and see if you enjoy it. I know I have. I'm sad to see the end coming up, but I'm assuming convergence will help fill that void. Read Full Review
This book leads into next weeks, finale and therefore, you would assume, into the Batman Beyond book slated for publication after Convergence, along with a new creative team and new direction. It seems that DC feel there is still life in the Beyond series, as it moves away from it's DCAU origins and ties. Read Full Review
I can't believe this is the second-to-last issue of the series and it's not one of the best issues I've read. This should be amazing. Perhaps the fact that it's ending I am being harsh, but I think at least some of this is justified. Why is this not crazy action-filled and look amazing? Here's hoping for a good finish. Decent issue.
"I'm having deja vu. I hate deja vu" was such a horrible line, it reduces the score of this issue by half a point all by itself.
It's telling that the two most interesting characters in this issue are both AIs. I don't like Tim Drake in this and I like him as Batman Beyond even less. Hopefully his own series will rectify the problems with his character so far.
