UNEXPECTED #4 is a compelling read, as the heroes Firebrand and Neon try to unravel the mysteries of the new Nth Metal isotope. The deep dive into DC lore and lack of mainstream characters may make it difficult for readers new to comics, but established DC fans will love this series! Read Full Review

I guess one could say that is a big credit to the overall book. Four characters that dont really excite me, art that failed to thrill me, and yet somehow I really enjoyed this issue. Read Full Review

The Unexpected continues to be a standout book of DCs New Age of Heroes line, expertly incorporating bits of the DCUs past while making an argument for being part of its future. Artist Cary Nords departure is a bummer, but this book clearly still has big plans. Read Full Review

This series might be a bit chaotic and irregular at times, but it's got big ideas, and that's enough to make it one of the more promising books in this line. Read Full Review

I love where the story is going and I hope it builds up to something soon. Orlando always has a plan, and luckily, Hawkman's presence in next issue is a lot more warranted. Read Full Review

Comic Book Corps - Keith OneShot Sep 5, 2018

By including more characters from the established DC Comics Universe, I feel that's helping to make these new heroes feel like they are slowly becoming apart of that universe, which I feel is a smart move, because it not only helps build these new characters, but it also offers a chance for a character like the signal to shine bright, if even only for a single issue. Weird Science - Jeremy Daw Sep 5, 2018

For a comic titled The Unexpected, this issue feels unfeasibly familiar with Onnimar Synn turning up halfway through to do pretty much exactly what he did the last issue. The scenes between Neon, Firebrand, Huntress and the Signal are unsubtle and shouty, hyper-dramatic dialogue slathered on so thickly that the notion we're dealing with three-dimensional characters is almost entirely lost in a frenzy of emotionally incontinent posturing. The art change half-way through is jarring and the overall purpose and trajectory of the story remain vague, possibly because the creative team is making it up as they go along. Links to the wider DC universe (and multiverse) are cool, but a story in which I'm encouraged to get emotionally invested would be cooler. Read Full Review
