I don't think that was the take for the "Truth" story, that she "stayed the warrior". She was involved in a spy game. Spy games usually involve lying, something she was raised to not do, even in dire situations. So the torturer was expecting her, as a spy, to lie but she just kept telling the truth instead and he could not believe that.

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Aug 25, 2021The series is already halfway finished, and it feels like its just getting going. They are endless possibilities in 7-8 page standalone stories that havent really had much of a chance to develop. Its nice to see DC giving them a home in series like Wonder Woman Black and Gold, but mini-series feel far too limited to really explore the depth and breadth of storytelling possible in short-shorts. The multi-faceted nature of Wonder Woman makes her a perfect fit for an anthology like Black and Gold. Read Full Review

"We Built A New World" - Hmm, rather touching Diana/Steve story. Probably the best of this issue. "Espionage" - Fairly amusing "gritty update" on Mod-era/Emma Peel knock-off Wonder Woman. "Beat The Heat and "Do No Harm" - Grouping these together because they both cover the same topic pretty much so kind of odd from an editorial standpoint to include them not only in the same issue but also back-to-back. I think it's pretty much a coin flip on which one you'd prefer. I think I preferred "Beat the Heat" though Vixen's cameo in "Do No Harm" was nice. "Stolen Lasso of Truth" - Thought this was one was pretty good.

Wonder Woman is DC's Spirit of Truth and this issue proves it. While she's a warrior, she's also a diplomat, to the point some writers seem to forget that. Plus she's aspirational enough for people to want to be her and find the confidence to show truths about themselves. Some truths are hard, kind of like with how despite a legendary feat of moving the Earth away from the sun, it can't stop global warming. Some truths are so absurd that people will refuse to believe them; like saying that even in her spy days Wonder Woman stayed the warrior.

This is a mixed bag. These anthologies almost always are. There's just not much to say after a while about these color anthologies.

Venditti's story is good and I also can't not like Epting's art and I guess the last story is decent. The others are just pure cringe, they would benefit if they would actually add writers based on their talents, not their sex.
