RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #5 cranks out the action and intrigue when Red Sonja fights her way through the countryside to reach Thord Vards stronghold. The action is entertaining, and the art is excellent, but the payoff of Red Sonjas hidden companion is a letdown. Read Full Review
This comic maintains that addictive narrative dynamic, where Red Sonja faces her greatest enemy without knowing it in the middle of a war between peoples led by a psychotic sorcerer.
The art has textures that give the details a retro/vintage touch that highlights the interesting dynamism and a warm color palette towards red and yellow that gives it a dynamic tone. The fight sequences are impressive with splash pages that balance the sensuality of Red Sonja with the lethal speed of her sword.
I continue to enjoy this series. We get an unneeded scene in the beginning with Kulan Gath. I thought that by the end of the last issue, she knew who it was, but maybe that was just for the reader. I like the coat half-open considering she's in the snow. We do get a monster in this one, a hydra of sorts. Thought I didn't understand the whole heart situation. I do like that she cut his arm off without hesitation. The covers continue to be great.
