What's the world like without the TMNT? Since their time-spanning victory over Armaggon, the Turtles have started to pursue other interests, leaving a void in New York among humans and mutants alike. This special issue explores the effects this change has on those connected to the brothers, from Old Hob to Jennika, across the five boroughs and all the way through Mutant Island. It's hard to tell how important someone is until they are gone. And who better to write such a story than Tom Waltz, the man who scripted the first 100 issues of IDW's series and the co-writer of The Last Ronin, and resign TMNT artist Gavin Smith!

If this is what to expect from Aarons run on TMNT, get ready for a legendary run. Long Way From Home welcomes readers into a world of dwindling hope and dangers with strong writing and art. Monster Island focuses in on the unique and evolving habitat of compatibility with mutants and humans. It should be a steady companion for the lead TMNT series kicking off later this summer. Long Way from home was a great teaser story for Jason Aaron's upcoming run which has me giving this a 9. Monster island felt more like Sophie Campbell's turtles which isn't appealing to me.

Great issue. The first story was great and I can't wait to see where that story goes. The art was great, very reminiscent of the Eastman and Laird days. The "trapped in a fight club and has to help fellow fighters escape" trope isn't new territory, but I love it in this setting. The second story was also really good, with the horror movie vibes. Anthology-like issues like this rarely hit for me, but this one definitely did.

Solid issue with the perfect blend of "something old, something new." I'm really excited to see where Aaron takes the new series and great to see it's a totally original direction while still honoring the previous run's continuity. Waltz's story was really cool too and so happy that we'll have a companion book like Mutant Nation to hopefully give us great side stories like we had in TMNT Universe for our tertiary characters.
